Las Fallas in Valencia: An explosion of light, color and flavor

One of our most appreciated local fairs is Las Fallas, in Valencia. Did you hear about it? It starts with the changing of the season, making them more special due to the nice and mild weather that Valencia usually hosts.

But, what is the origin of this celebration? It is not certainly clear but the beliefs said that the carpenters used to set fire to the unused wood things and that's the origin of the bonfires. In the 19 th century, some organizations helped to declare it as a local party, making them coincide with St. Joseph's Day. Nowadays it's one of the most important dates along the year, especially for the travel industry.

Not only Las Fallas is a party itself but also it is artistic expression at its best. The ninots (the sculptures) which are designed and made in great detail show current issues that happened in Spain. Another important subject that you can see during these days is the regional dress, one of the most luxurious in Spain, with details made in gold.

Putting aside the party thing, Valencia has turned out in a cultural hub, full of life. The city marked a milestone after the Oceanogràfic has been built by Santiago Calatrava and boosted Valencia to one of the top cities to spend some days. Joaquín Sorolla predicted the beauty of its light through his paintings and we couldn't be more agreed with him!
